White Paint Grade Birch
White Birch Paint Grade is selected for its smooth, closed-grain surface, which provides an excellent substrate for painted finishes. Because the finished surface is opaque, material is chosen for surface quality rather than color.
Appearance Expectations
Natural color variation, mineral, and heartwood are acceptable, since the painted finish conceals them. Selection prioritizes a sound, smooth, paint-ready surface over color uniformity.
Natural Grain Characteristics
Fine, closed grain that minimizes grain telegraphing under paint.
Natural Wood Features
Mineral streaking is acceptable and is concealed by the painted finish.
Panel Construction
Solid wood panels are manufactured for stability while maintaining the appearance of continuous solid wood. Natural variation in stave widths and well-blended panel joints should be expected.
Sapwood
Both sapwood and heartwood are acceptable under an opaque finish.
Stain Characteristics
Paint grade is intended for opaque painted finishes and is not recommended for stain or natural finish.
Surface Quality
Surfaces are selected and prepared to accept paint cleanly, with attention to smoothness and soundness.
Reverse Side
The reverse side of White Birch components is considered non-show material and will show greater natural variation in color, grain, and characteristics.
What Makes White Birch Paint Grade Unique
Birch’s fine, closed grain provides a clean, smooth substrate that takes paint evenly for a durable painted finish.
Quality Standards
To ensure every component meets Meridian Products’ quality standards, the following conditions are not permitted:
- Rot
- Structural cracks
- Open worm holes
- Checking
- Pick-out
- Tear-out
- Surface characteristics that would telegraph through paint
Every White Paint Grade Birch component is carefully inspected to ensure it meets Meridian Products’ quality standards. We combine material grading with expert craftsmanship to highlight the natural beauty of White Paint Grade Birch while providing the consistency expected from the selected grade.
Natural Wood Disclaimer
Wood is a product of nature. Variations in color, grain pattern, mineral streaks, knots, sapwood, heartwood, and other naturally occurring characteristics are inherent to solid hardwood and are not considered manufacturing defects. No two pieces will be exactly alike, making every project uniquely beautiful.
While Meridian Products carefully grades and inspects every component to meet the standards of the selected material grade, natural variation should be expected and appreciated as part of the character and beauty of genuine wood.
