Cherry Select
Cherry Select is our premium cherry offering, selected for its exceptional color consistency, refined appearance, and minimal natural characteristics. It is intended for projects requiring a clean, uniform look while preserving the warmth and beauty of genuine Cherry hardwood.
Although Cherry Select is carefully sorted, it remains a natural wood product. Subtle variations in grain and color are part of the character of solid hardwood and should be expected.
Color Consistency
One of the defining characteristics of Cherry Select is its color uniformity.
Customers can expect:
- Consistent color across doors, drawer fronts, and components
- Minimal color variation between individual pieces
- A refined, furniture-quality appearance
As with all Cherry products, the wood will naturally darken and develop a richer patina as it ages and is exposed to light.
Natural Grain Characteristics
Cherry Select is chosen for attractive grain patterns while limiting pronounced natural figure.
Acceptable grain characteristics include:
- Straight grain
- Rift grain
- Small burl or curly grain figure
- Minimal tiger or flame figure
- Small flecking clusters that blend naturally with surrounding wood
Grain characteristics should complement the overall appearance without becoming the dominant visual feature.
Natural Wood Features
Small mineral streaks.
Minimal worm tracks or vine marks that blend with surrounding wood.
Small pitch pockets (up to approximately 3/8") that may be professionally filled when necessary.
One tight pin knot less than 1/8" in diameter with minimal associated checking.
Panel Construction
Solid wood panels are assembled to provide both stability and a natural appearance.
Customers should expect:
- Carefully matched grain transitions
- Well-blended panel joints
- Natural variation in stave widths
- Solid wood appearance across assembled panels
Where appropriate, staves may be split and rejoined to remove natural defects while maintaining an attractive grain flow.
Sapwood
Cherry Select is manufactured using heartwood for visible surfaces. Visible sapwood is not permitted on the face of panels. Minor sapwood exposure may occasionally be visible in machined areas when it is subtle and does not affect the overall appearance.
Stain Characteristics
One naturally occurring stain up to approximately 2" × 2" may be present on a standard-sized panel. Sticker stain is not permitted.
Reverse Side
The reverse side of components is considered non-show material.
Natural variations in color, grain, and appearance may be present on the back surfaces and are considered acceptable.

Quality Standards
To ensure every component meets Meridian Products’ quality standards, the following conditions are not permitted:
- Rot
- Structural cracks
- Open worm holes
- Checking
- Pick-out
- Tear-out
- Quarter-sawn medullary rays on visible surfaces
Every Cherry Select component is carefully inspected to ensure it meets Meridian Products’ quality standards. We combine material grading with expert craftsmanship to highlight the natural beauty of Cherry Select while providing the consistency expected from the selected grade.
