Appearance Expectations

Poplar ranges from pale white and cream to grey, with green and brown mineral streaking. It is not selected for color, as the component will be painted.

Natural Grain Characteristics

Fine, straight, closed grain with a smooth surface that takes paint evenly.

Natural Wood Features

Mineral Streaks

Green and brown mineral is a natural characteristic of Poplar and is acceptable under an opaque finish.

Panel Construction

Solid wood panels are manufactured for stability while maintaining the appearance of continuous solid wood. Natural variation in stave widths and well-blended panel joints should be expected.

Sapwood

Sapwood and heartwood are both used; color is not selected.

Stain Characteristics

Paint grade is intended for opaque painted finishes and is not recommended for stain or natural finish.

Surface Quality

Surfaces are selected and prepared to accept paint cleanly.

Reverse Side

The reverse side of Poplar components is considered non-show material and will show greater natural variation in color, grain, and characteristics.

Natural Wood Disclaimer

Wood is a product of nature. Variations in color, grain pattern, mineral streaks, knots, sapwood, heartwood, and other naturally occurring characteristics are inherent to solid hardwood and are not considered manufacturing defects. No two pieces will be exactly alike, making every project uniquely beautiful.

While Meridian Products carefully grades and inspects every component to meet the standards of the selected material grade, natural variation should be expected and appreciated as part of the character and beauty of genuine wood.
